Our goal at Green Tiger Junk Removal is to minimize the amount of material we have to
take to the landfill. This is not just to help the environment but also to help the
community and, most importantly, our bottom line. The additional revenue and reduced
overhead allow us to provide our customers with competitive pricing and a commitment
to bettering the community. We try to sort our collected materials into four categories:
recyclables, resalable items, donatable items, and items that must be discarded at the
landfill. Prioritizing recycling, resale, and donation allows us to have lower dump fees,
reduces transport and fuel costs, and gets better use out of the items we are collecting
as opposed to disposing of every item.
Recycling
For recycling, we focus mainly on metals and materials that can be sold at local
recycling centers. Items such as copper, wire, aluminum, electrical motors, and exotic
metals have a higher value than steel, for example. So, when feasible, we will sort the
materials by recycling type in order to maximize the payout of these items.
Reselling
For reselling, we typically use Facebook Marketplace or other local listing services to list
and sell the items. We have extensive knowledge of reselling, and we base our
decisions on which items to set aside on the time it would take us to sell the item and
the amount of space the item takes up versus its selling value.
The other deciding factor is whether more value could be generated for the item by
donating it to a local shelter versus us reselling it. Sometimes local donation centers
have a larger customer base that could ensure the item gets into the hands of someone
who can use it faster than we can.
We are primarily a junk removal service, so if the cost of selling an item with our current
business model impacts our overhead and operating costs, we need to find another
method of disposal to ensure we can remain cost-competitive for our customers. It helps
us keep pricing competitive and allows us to grow.
The additional revenue generated by these two methods is used to pay business
expenses such as fuel costs and equipment maintenance. While reselling and recycling
do help our bottom line, the main source of our business income comes from customer cleanouts.
Donations
For items that don’t make economic sense to resell with our business model or available
space, we first prioritize donating the items. While our customers may not have the
need or space to keep the items we remove, they still may have value to someone who
can use them.
At this time, we donate to local centers that accept items to minimize dump fees and
transportation costs to the landfill, but we are looking to establish a strategic partnership
with a local charity or donation center that could benefit from our collected items.
Responsible Disposal
We have over 25 years of experience with reselling and donations, so our expertise
allows us to quickly sort and determine the best method of finding the most appropriate
home for the items we collect.
For items that must be discarded, we use the appropriate Brevard County landfill based
on the materials being discarded. Certain landfills only accept specific types of items,
and we are well-versed in which landfills accept which items to ensure we follow
applicable local, state, and federal disposal guidelines.
We currently do not accept chemicals, so those items will need to be sorted out and
staged separately from our pickup. With our knowledge and expertise, you can be sure that we will make every effort to ensure your items are disposed of properly, not just because it’s good for the
environment, but because it’s also good for the bottom line.
